Awww darn. A "survived a dragon attack" party would've been fun too! The girls and I've been having LOTS of adventures since you were here for Rainbow Dash's birthiversary, though! We REALLY need to catch up!

[And then he was gone, and he has no idea what he's missed since then. That smile does make him stop, ears folding back a little. He hasn't seen Pinkie look this worried for a while, it worries him in return. ]

I meant to write you about this, I really did, I Pinkie Promise, but-- Well, Tirek was stealing everypony's magic, but Twilight figured out that we needed to open this magical tree chest that had a castle inside and let us give all the magic back but-- but we all had to put stuff near it that turned into keys. And... And Boneless was one of those keys...
[She reaches for somewhere on her person and pulls out a long, golden, wavy key, ending in three balloon-shaped keys.]
[He stares down at the key. The key that was once the only friend he ever had, for such a long, long time. But Boneless had always been Pinkie's, in his mind, she'd just loaned him to him. The rubber chicken gave him the strength to learn how to be a better pony. A little companion to help him learn how to make friends who could actually talk back. ]
So he helped you girls save Equestria?
[High aspirations, for such a little rubber chicken. There's a twang of pain there, for a lost friend, but he has done so much more. Cheese looks up from the key and sees how broken up Pinkie is about it and can't help but offer her a small, encouraging smile. He'd do anything for her not to be sad. Her being sad is just...wrong. It's not how the universe should be. She's Joy Incarnate.]
Hey, it's okay. I'm glad he was so important in everything. It's super important you all stopped Tirek. I mean, you're our heroes. If you hadn't stopped him, who would?
Y-yeah, he did... And yeah, it would've been hard to stop Tirek without him. And Twilight wouldn't have her new castle after Tirek burned the library down... And that feeling... I was bursting with so much joy I couldn't keep it all to myself if I wanted to! I wouldn't have been able to give everypony back their magic without him at all. Or you, if you hadn't given him to me.
He clears his throat, pawing the ground awkwardly with one hoof at that last comment. Next to her, he's not much at all. He was just paying forward what she gave him.]
Well. I mean, technically he was yours in the first place anyway. After everything you did for me, you deserved to have him back.
[Yup. Luckily, the castle library gave her space to rebuild her collection and then some.
Still, those denials earn a little head shake, even as her smile grows warmer and more tender.] But he was YOUR friend forever and ever, right? And your co-party planner. That's a special bond, and it meant a lot to you AND me that you gave him back, right?
[That little smile just melts his heart, really, and not for the first time in his life. She's just so good and decent, putting everypony before herself, no matter what. He tries to emulate her, but he knows he'll always just fall short of the heights of sheer goodness she lives on.
He's put her on a pedestal and he's happy for her to stay there. ]
Right! It absolutely meant a lot! [Because she means a lot. ] I'm glad he went on to something so important, really.
[Ohhh trust me, everypony's got weaknesses, and she's no different. He saw her on one of her worst days, after all.]
That he did. Maybe we can slip a little toast to him during our party.
[And then the bittersweet evaporates into just sweet and her smile it its old self again... and moves to tuck the key away again before pausing, and then holding it out to Cheese again, even more so than before.]

[For once, Pinkie DOES pick up on that twang, but it only earns a blink before she smiles again and gives him a quick full-body nuzzle, like a cat against a leg but briefer.]
