"Perhaps you deserve it," the elf smirked a little, raising his own glass. "On occasion, anyway. We wouldn't want you to start expecting it. That just wouldn't do at all. Imagine how obnoxious you would end up being."

It was all in jest, of course. Fenris could, when he wanted to be, as ready to joke as anyone. It just happened to have to be with the right people. Only a privileged few ever got to see the elf's more relaxed side. He never regretted allowing Kirk to be one of those.
